To continuously monitor the soil retreat due to erosion in field,provide valuable information about the erosion processes and overcome the disadvantages of inefficiency,high time-consumption and labor-intensity of existing methods,this paper describes a novel capacitance sensor for measuring the soil retreat.A capacitance sensor based probe is proposed,which can measure the depth of the soil around it automatically and the data can be recorded by a data logger.Experimental results in the lab verify its usefulness.
